In 1985 I published “Points of Contact Between Anthropological and Theatrical Thought” as the first chapter of my pointedly titled Between Theatre and Anthropology. Things have progressed a long way since then. The “performative turn” in anthropology came. And a new galaxy of contacts between anthropological and theatrical thought has emerged. In the following essay, I will discuss three (new) points of contact. They do not stand alone. They are interlaced with each other, reflecting and interacting with each other. However, they can to some degree be parsed into: 1) Embodiment - experience as the basis of indigenous knowledge that is shared through performing; 2) The sources of human culture are performative; and 3) The brain as a performance site. What undergirds these three points of contact is that performance constitutes, as Diana Taylor shows, a repertoire of embodied knowledge, a learning in and through the body, as well as a means of creating, preserving and transmitting knowledge.||Em 1985, publiquei “Pontos de contato entre o pensamento antropológico e teatral” como primeiro capítulo de meu livro Between Theater and Anthropology (Entre o Teatro e a Antropologia), de título bastante claro. As coisas mudaram muito desde então. Veio a “virada performativa” na antropologia, e, com ela, uma nova galáxia de contatos entre o pensamento antropológico e o teatral. No ensaio a seguir, discuto três (novos) pontos de contato. Eles não existem isoladamente. Estão entrelaçados, refletem-se uns nos outros e interagem entre si. No entanto, podem até certo ponto ser analisados em termos de 1. Encorporação1 – a experiência como base do conhecimento nativo que é compartilhado por meio da performance; 2. As fontes da cultura humana como performativas; e 3. O cérebro como um local de performance. O que fundamenta estes três pontos de contato, como mostra Diana Taylor, é o fato de que a performance constitui um repertório de conhecimento encorporado, uma aprendizagem no e através do corpo, bem como um meio de criar, preservar e transmitir conhecimento.
