É nossa proposta e contribuição reconsiderar e «atualizar» alguns dos principais conceitos da semiótica da cultura a fim de melhor compreender o processo de definição de identidades e conflitos culturais que vivemos atualmente em todo o mundo: categorias como «seu» e «do outro» (com o processo de apropriação cultural e influência), conceitos como «fronteira semiótica» e «tradução» (com o processo de crioulização e hibridização) ou, então, de «autoconsciência semiótica» podem ser realmente úteis para explicar as dinâmicas de aparecimento dos «sistemas de representações» – práticas e formas de crença, sentimento e conhecimento – que constituem os «universos de valores» e as formas de vida que fazem parte da «confrontação intercultural».||It is our proposal and contribution to reconsider and "upgrade" some of the key concepts semiotics of culture in order to better understand the process of defining identity and cultural conflicts which we currently live in the world: categories as 'his' and 'the other' (the process of cultural appropriation and influence), concepts such as 'frontier semiotic' and 'translation' (the process of creolization and hybridization), or else the "semiotic self" can be really helpful to explain the dynamics of appearance of "representation systems" - practices and forms of belief, feeling and knowledge - which are the 'universes values' and the life forms that are part of the "cultural confrontation".
