This text intends to analyze the representations of the female sex prepared by the Portuguese Oratorian priest, Manuel Bernardes. Two books were selected for this study: Armas de castidade (1699) [Weapons of chastity] and Nova Floresta [New Forest] (1706-1728). In these devotional works, it is possible to identify studies that were considered honorable for the female sex. Dois livros foram escolhidos para este estudo: as Armas de castidade (1699) e a Nova Floresta (1706-1728). Nessas obras devocionais, é possível identificar estados que eram considerados honrados para o gênero feminino. Além disso, pretende-se discutir a construção de imagens misóginas, recolhidas e reelaboradas por Bernardes.
