This essay examines poems, short stories and Macunaíma, written by Mario de Andrade, trying to emphasize the way those texts express tension, conflict and dilemmas of modernity and the Brazilian modernization, while they are engendered as modern and modernist. The artistic forms and languages as inventions anchored in the social process through the erudite canon and popular tradition, in search of firming identites and attracting ideological residues still alive in the social and personal relations. In this collision, we seek to understand the point of view and artistic autonomy, highlighting them as aesthetics inventions and production of a critical negativity in face of the process of modernization and the social structures of our country.||O ensaio examina poemas, contos e o Macunaíma, de Mário de Andrade, procurando enfatizar o modo pelo qual esses textos expressam tensões, conflitos e dilemas da modernidade e da modernização brasileiras, enquanto se engendram como modernos e modernistas. As formas e linguagens artísticas como invenções ancoradas no processo social, por via do cânone erudito e das tradições populares, em busca de firmar identidades e captar resíduos ideológicos ainda vivos nas relações sociais e pessoais. Nesse embate procura-se compreender a autonomia dos pontos de vista e dos olhares artísticos, destacando-os como invenções estéticas e produção de uma negatividade crítica frente ao processo de modernização e frente à s estruturas sociais do país.
