Este artigo procura mostrar como Antonio Candido, ao mesmo tempo em que não encontra uma formulação propriamente literária no método crítico de Sílvio Romero, depara-se com uma proposição sociológica, moderna e positiva que o leva a aperfeiçoá-la, ajustando-a aos elementos literários nela implícitos.||The aim of this article is to explain how Antonio Candido, looking for a literary feature based on the critical method of Sílvio Romero, falls in with a fertile sociological proposal which he improves not only by bringing it up-to-date, but also by adjusting all its literary implied elements.
