This work intends to focus the moment of the military coup “état of 1964 in Sorocaba. The main point is to know what the division of the political forces was like, who was in the progressist position and who represented the conservative interests. Besides that, we intend to characterize the economical situation of Sorocaba and its influence in the development of the facts here studied. Finally, we tried to find out how the police repression took place and its consequences for the city. ||O presente trabalho pretende pesquisar o momento do golpe militar de 1.964 em Sorocaba. O interesse principal é saber como era a divisão das forças políticas, quem se alinhava com posições progressistas e quem representava o interesse dos conservadores. Além disso, procura-se caracterizar a situação econômica da cidade e sua influência no desenrolar dos fatos focalizados. Tentou-se descobrir, por fim, como se deu a repressão policial e suas conseqüências para a cidade.
