Intercultural encounters experienced by artists that travel abroad are not always happy. In fact, they can produce a deep feeling of anguish and isolation. This is the subject of this article on Antonin Artaud's self-exile in Mexico in the 30's. The author discusses why the French poet and playwriter, who went to Mexico moved by the hope of descovering and working on a new reality, turned to be the "desdichado" who strolled alone and drugged along the streets of the city.||Encontros interculturais vividos por artistas que partem para o estrangeiro nem sempre são felizes. Na verdade, podem produzir profundos sentimentos de angústia e isolamento. Este é o tema deste artigo sobre o auto-exílio de Antonin Artaud no México na década de 1930. Discute-se por que o poeta e dramaturgo francês, que foi para o México movido pela esperança de descobrir e trabalhar uma nova realidade, acabou como um "desdichado", vagando só e drogado pelas ruas da cidade.
