This paper is essentially a translational work, where the Stravinsky: the progress of
a method original article by Edward T. Cone is translated into Portuguese. There is a short
introduction to the original text pointing out historical features related with its first publication,
and concerning its impact over the post-war American musicology. Beyond the historical
relevance, this translation is justified by the theoretical content in itself, since dealing with
interesting compositional resources and helpful analytical devices.

Cone (1917-2004). Precede o texto original uma pequena introdução elaborada pelos tradutores, na qual ressaltam-se aspectos históricos envolvidos no artigo original de Cone, bem como o impacto que o respectivo trabalho ocasionou na musicologia norte americana do pós-guerra. Para além dessa importância histórica, justifica-se esta tradução pelo significativo conteúdo teórico que comporta, pois aborda interessante recurso composicional incorporado à valiosa ferramenta de análise musical.
