How did the Brazilian theatre of a romantic epoch represent the Negro and the slavery on the stage and dramatic texts? The article tries to give an answer to that question, by going through the main works and authors that focused on the question, beginning with a suggestion found in a text by Brito Broca, to whom the Brazilian literature created a romantic and realistic abolitionism.||Como o teatro brasileiro dos tempos românticos representou o negro e a escravidão nos palcos e nos textos dramáticos? O artigo tenta dar uma resposta a essa questão – passando em revista as principais obras e autores que a abordaram –, a partir de uma sugestão colhida em texto de Brito Broca, para quem a literatura brasileira fez abolicionismo romântico e realista.
