This article presents partial results of research on the centrality of work and its changes in the current century. It discusses work as a founding category of the social being, the genesis of the sociability process, insofar as it is a natural and eternal condition of human life. It reaffirms that, in the context of precarious work, work does not lose its centrality to human existence with regard to social relations. It reflects on the capacity of man, starting from work, to transform nature, himself and others, and to create possibilities to break with the strangeness and imprisonments engendered in the relations of domination between capital and labor through resistance struggles seeking emancipation.||Este artigo expõe resultados parciais de pesquisas sobre a centralidade do trabalho e suas transformações ocorridas no século em curso. Discute o trabalho como categoria fundante do ser social, gênese do processo de sociabilidade, na medida em que é condição natural e eterna da vida humana. Reafirma que no contexto da precarização do trabalho, este não perde sua centralidade na existência humana em suas relações sociais. Traz uma reflexão sobre a capacidade dos seres humanos de, a partir do trabalho, transformar a natureza, a si e aos outros, e de criar possibilidades para romper com as estranhezas e aprisionamentos engendrados nas relações de dominação entre capital e trabalho através de lutas de resistência em busca da emancipação.
