Religion as a manifestation of human nature enters into our existence in the fields of art and does not shrink from this rule, and one of its most widespread expressions cinema reflected in its production and consumption expectations and ideas whose explicit religious grounds may emerge or remain implicit in his works. In this sense this article sought to demonstrate through the analysis of The Matrix and the construction of its protagonist the presence of religious aspects in his narrative, the cut favored reading of the traits that enable analogies to the figure of the Christian messiah. The analysis indicated that the persistence of religious feeling in the world today featured a messiah based on Christian archetypes, but also meets the demands of the eschatological experience of our own society Postmodern pleased that, even in the fantasy movie, with the idea savior of someone capable of giving new meaning to a world whose fiction is a striking metaphor of reality.||A religião como manifestação da natureza humana penetra em todos os domínios de nossa existência, e a arte não se subtrai a essa regra. Como uma de suas mais difundidas expressões o cinema reflete na sua produção e consumo expectativas e ideias cujas bases religiosas podem emergir explícitas ou permanecer implícitas em suas obras. Nesse sentido este artigo buscou demonstrar por meio da análise do filme Matrix e da construção de seu protagonista a presença de aspectos religiosos em sua narrativa. O recorte privilegiou a leitura dos traços que permitissem analogias com a figura do messias cristão. A análise indicou que a permanência de sentimento religioso no mundo atual caracterizou um messias baseado em arquétipos cristãos, mas que também atende as demandas escatológicas próprias da vivência de nossa sociedade Pós-Moderna, que se compraz, ainda que na fantasia do cinema, com a ideia de um ente salvador capaz de dar novas ignificação a um mundo cuja ficção é uma metáfora contundente da realidade.
