When A via crucis do corpo was published in 1974, journalistic criticism did not spare the writer Clarice Lispector, until then consecrated by the hermetic and intimate text. Veja and Jornal do Brasil, two important vehicles of the Brazilian press, condemned the writer for abandoning the language and the theme that designed her, yielding to the guidelines of the editor Álvaro Pacheco, from Artenova. Veja e Jornal do Brasil, dois importantes veículos da imprensa brasileira, condenaram a escritora por abandonar a linguagem e a temática que a projetaram, cedendo à s orientações do editor Álvaro Pacheco, da Artenova. O fato é que, mesmo diante das circunstâncias em que a obra foi idealizada, por encomenda e em alguns dias, versando sobre sexo, é possível observar um plano metalinguístico ou projeto literário clariciano, conforme estudos de Benedito Nunes e Vilma Arêas.
