O artigo mapeia a circulação brasileira da série cinematográfica e folhetinesca norte-americana Os Mistérios de Nova York (1914), bem como analisa suas congêneres nacionais. Seu sucesso no Brasil determinou a produção de dois Mistérios do Rio de Janeiro: a série cinematográfica (por Coelho Netto em 1917) e a série cronística (por Benjamin Costallat em 1924). O trabalho pensa a relação entre cinema e jornal nos anos de 1910-20 e a influência do cinema na mise-en-scène do gênero folhetinesco.||This article draws a map of the Brazilian circulation of the North American feuilletons and moving picture series The Exploits of Elaine, The New Exploits of Elaine e The Romance of Elaine (1914) – named The Mysteries of New York in Brazil –, as well as analyzes their national congeners. The success achieved by this piece of work in national ground determined the writing of two Mysteries of Rio de Janeiro: a movie series (by Coelho Netto in 1917) and the journalistic chronicles (by Benjamin Costallat in 1924). This article deals with the relations between the cinema and the newspaper in the years of 1910-20 and the influence the cinema had in the mise en scène of the newspaper chronicles.
