Charles Ives and John Cage, who may be considered respectively grandfather and father of the North-American experimental music, share the same appreciation for the transcendental philosophers (Thoreau and Emerson), founders of a pacifist North America, rousseauist, idealist, a different (North) América. Starting with the first theoretical text written by John Cage, in which he discusses the relations between the United-States and Latin America, the author establishes connections between his musical thought and transcendentalism. Latin America.||Charles Ives e John Cage, que podem ser considerados respectivamente como o avô e o pai da musica experimental norte-americana, compartilham o mesmo gosto pelos filosofos transcendentalistas (Thoreau e Emerson), os quais foram fundadores de uma América do Norte pacifista, rousseauista, idealista, enfim, uma outra América (do Norte). Este trabalho toma como ponto de partida o primeiro texto teórico escrito por John Cage, onde o compositor discute as relações entre os Estados-Unidos e a América Latina, para estabelecer conexões entre seu pensamento musical e o movimento transcendentalista.
