The representation of school research and its influence in citizenship formation through
the teachers’ and pupils’ voice is provided. Research discusses the formation of knowledge and the development of autonomy. Its aim is to verify specifically whether
representations on research result in the activities of reading, reflection and writing. The constitutive elements of a research, such as motivation, search for theme, problematization, investigation and discovery, are revealed. Since the idea of a research is a form of knowledge building, the current qualitative and interpretative assignment,
set within Applied Linguistics Theory, is based on several authors in the educational field. This is even true because the research methodology is in focus. Research has been
undertaken in four public and private schools in Maringá PR Brazil. Two schools are integrated within institutions for Higher Education. Corpus consists of sixteen
questionnaires for teachers of Portuguese and 395 questionnaires were answered by 5th
to 8th grade primary students. One hundred and thirty-seven are selected as samples.
Analyses emphasized the use of the school library, reading habits of teachers and
students and their ideas on the research act, or rather, the frequency, contents,
organization, results, evaluation and the benefits thereof. According to the ideas most of
teachers and students in all schools, research is an interesting and creative activity
which fixes contents and the acquisition of knowledge with evident advantages for their
cultural formation.||O presente trabalho procura depreender, a partir da voz de professores e alunos, as representações de ambos sobre a pesquisa escolar e sua influência na formação do cidadão, fomentando as discussões sobre a formação de conhecimento e o desenvolvimento da autonomia. Visa, especificamente, verificar como as representações sobre pesquisa se manifestam nas atividades de leitura, reflexão e escrita. Procura, por fim, explicitar os elementos constitutivos de uma pesquisa: a motivação, a busca do tema, o questionamento, a investigação e a descoberta. Partindo da concepção de pesquisa como forma de construção de conhecimento, o trabalho, de cunho qualitativo-interpretativo, com aporte teórico na Lingüística Aplicada, fundamenta-se em diversos autores da área da Educação, uma vez que focaliza a metodologia de pesquisa. A dissertação analisa quatro escolas públicas e privadas de Maringá, PR, sendo duas delas integradas a Instituições de Ensino Superior. O corpus constitui-se de dezessete questionários dirigidos a professores de Língua Portuguesa e 395 questionários respondidos por alunos de 5ª a 8ª séries do ensino fundamental, dentre os quais 137 são separados por amostragem. A análise enfatiza a utilização da biblioteca escolar, os hábitos de leitura docente e discente e as concepções de professores e alunos sobre o ato de pesquisar em si mesmo, ou seja, a freqüência, os conteúdos tratados, a organização, os resultados, a avaliação e o conseqüente proveito dessa atividade. Conclui-se que, de acordo com as concepções da maioria dos professores e alunos de todas as escolas analisadas, a pesquisa é uma atividade interessante e criativa, que possibilita a fixação de conteúdos e a aquisição de conhecimentos e traz vantagens para a formação cultural.
