The purpose of this study is to analyze the history and the changes in the tourist routes in the Delta do Parnaiba - PI / MA (Brazil). The main goal of this work is to observe how tourism has been modifying the geographical space, especially in the big boat most traditional tour. This article is based on a qualitative and exploratory research using a sampling technique called snowball, and it will be represented by oral interviews with businesspeople and residents working with the tour, trying to take a historical survey of the development of the tourist activity of the region. The necessity to develop the present study was verified due to the fact that few researches deal with the history and starting point of the tourist exploration, as well as its environmental management. The Delta do Parnaiba is one of the greatest environmental resources in the region and one of the main tourist attractions in Piauí and of Rota das Emoções (MA, PI e CE) attracting many visitors to region. Through the research carried out, it was possible to observe that the Delta does not have the same historical characteristic as it was in the past, because the tourist activity is carried out without planning to ensure its conservation and the continuation of activity. Constantly changing, reducing its historical navigability and the tour, causing a loss in the environmental, cultural and tourist value of the region.||EEste artigo investigou a história e as transformações ocorridas nas rotas turísticas no Delta do Parnaíba entre o Piauí e o Maranhão, com o intuito de observar como atividade turística vem modificando o espaço geográfico, sobretudo no trajeto dos barcos grandes em que acontece o “passeio tradicional”. A metodologia baseou-se em pesquisa de natureza qualitativa e exploratória, sob a técnica de amostragem snowball (Bola de Neve) com o emprego de entrevistas orais com empresários e moradores que trabalham com o passeio, no qual buscou-se construir um levantamento histórico do desenvolvimento da atividade turística da região. Verificou-se a necessidade de desenvolver o presente estudo pelo fato de poucas pesquisas abordarem a história e ponto inicial da exploração turística no Delta do Parnaíba, visto que o referido destino apresenta-se como uma das maiores riquezas ambientais existentes na região e um dos principais atrativos turísticos do Piauí e da Rota das Emoções (MA, PI e CE). Os resultados reportaram que foi possível observar que o Delta não possui as mesmas características históricas. A atividade turística é exercida sem planejamento que assegure sustentabilidade e valorização ambiental, cultura e turística da região.
