Orientador: Haroldo Gallo||Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Artes||Resumo: Investiga-se o estilo de pintura a óleo denominado alterstil, usado por Rembrandt van Rijn e seu círculo, em quinze pinturas do período tardio observadas em quatro museus holandeses, a partir da perspectiva da tecnologia dos materiais e das técnicas de pintura. Primeiramente, organizou-se textos históricos que definem a terminologia e as características formais do estilo. Definiu-se que o estilo também conhecido como maneira rústica (alterstil), é associado com a idade avançada e maturidade artística, além das suas características de natureza estilística transgressora. Analisou-se em seguida os possíveis conceitos usados pelo artista como pensamento técnico e processual, sobretudo aqueles extraídos do manual Inleyding, acerca da teoria de cores correlatas e conflitantes, cores quebradas, a valorização do disegno acima do colorito e os conceitos holandeses de houding e kenlijkheyt. Através da análise das investigações físico-químicas de suas pinturas, foi possível definir os materiais do artista: tipos de suporte, base, o uso quase exclusivo do óleo de linhaça como veículo, o modo de organização de sua paleta simples, as características de seus pigmentos, o uso do óleo com litargírio como medium e as adições de carbonato de cálcio, albumina e quartzo. Quanto ao processo de pintura, investigou-se a estratificação de camadas dessas quinze obras, revelando os principais estágios técnicos usados pelo artista: primuersel, invenção (stelsel), camada morta (doodverf) e o accenten (opschilderen). Durante o desenvolvimento desse estudo, as quinze pinturas foram investigadas in loco e o material extraído dessas observações comparado as análises físico-químicas dessas obras. Este estudo sugere três hipóteses primárias: a técnica desenvolveu-se de modo gradual, foi identificado o uso do contraste de complementares no campo pictórico e o uso de cores complementares em misturas para neutralização. As hipóteses secundárias são três: a sugestão da terminologia maneira rústica como sendo mais adequada ao estilo na língua portuguesa, a identificação de inúmeros padrões processuais e o uso de modelagem da tinta sobre camada semi-seca||Abstract: This study investigates the painting style called alterstil, used by Rembrandt van Rijn and his circle, from the point of view of the technology of art materials and painting techniques on fifteen paintings. First, historical texts that defines the terminology and the characteristics of the style were organized. The style was defined as the rough manner (alterstil), related to advanced age and artistic maturity, also by his transgressive stylistic nature. After that, possible concepts used by the artist as technical thinking were analyzed on the treatise called Inleyding, about color theory, broken color, the valorization of disegno over colorito and the dutch concepts of houding and kenlijkheyt. With the help of the chemical analysis, it was possible to define his materials: supports, grounds, the almost exclusive use of linseed oil, the methods of organization of his simple palette, his pigments characteristics, the use of litharge on his medium, the addition of chalk, albumin and quartz. On the painting process was possible to define the stratification of layers of his works, technical stages used by the artist called primuersel, invention (stelsel), dead layer (doodverwen) and accenten (opschilderen). During the development of this study, the fifteen paintings analyzed here were examined in loco, the analytical material extracted from these observations was compared with the material collected on the bibliography. As a conclusion, this study suggests as the first hypothesis that this style has developed in a gradual way, the use of the concept of complementary contrasts on his compositions, the use of complementary colors on mixtures as a mean to neutralize colors and the identification of processual patterns. As secondary hypothesis, this study suggests the term maneira rústica (rough manner) as a more adequate Portuguese terminology for this style and also the possibility that the painter used to model the form on top of semi-dried layers of oil paint||Doutorado||Artes Visuais||Doutor em Artes Visuais
