The present research sought to comparatively analyze the images and artifacts produced by the Frei Afonso Municipal School students, located in Baixo Roger, in the city of João Pessoa - PB, in Visual Arts classes and outside them, with the cultural references of the place where live and with their aesthetic daily life. The research was qualitative, exploratory and as a methodological procedure the formation of a participatory focal group. The paths followed to reach the main objective of this research included the contextualization of students' cultural references. Documentary data of the educational institution were analyzed as the Political Pedagogical Project and the School Regiment. Images and objects produced by the students in the Arts classes were investigated and a cultural mapping of Baixo Roger was carried out with the focus group, where most of the students live. In order to arrive at these data, I counted on the following collection instruments: application of questionnaires, interviews, testimonials, photographic and audiovisual documentation. The research seeks to answer the following problem: Does Frei Afonso Municipal School address the aesthetics of Baixo Roger's daily life and of students in the Visual Arts curriculum? The theoretical basis was based on authors who contributed to the discussions necessary for the formation of the central concepts of work: concept of periphery and favela, their histories, characteristics, differences and current challenges (Moura and Ultramari, Denaldi, Zaluar and Alvito); Concept of culture and art of the periphery (Hollanda, Frota, Tavares); Aesthetics of daily life (Richter, Barbosa); Curriculum issues (Silva, Giroux and Simon); History and philosophical concept of multiculturalism (Semprini); And the contribution of multiculturalism in education and in the visual arts teaching(Candau, Canen, Barbosa).||Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES||A presente investigação buscou analisar comparativamente as imagens e os artefatos produzidos pelos estudantes da Escola Municipal Frei Afonso, localizada no Baixo Roger, na cidade de João Pessoa – PB, nas aulas de Artes Visuais e fora delas, com os referenciais culturais do local em que vivem e com o seu cotidiano estético. A pesquisa teve caráter qualitativo, exploratório e como procedimento metodológico a formação de um grupo focal participativo. Os caminhos seguidos para se chegar ao objetivo principal desta pesquisa compreenderam a contextualização das referências culturais dos estudantes. Foram analisados dados documentais da instituição de ensino como o Projeto Político Pedagógico e o Regimento Escolar. Foram investigados imagens e objetos produzidos pelos estudantes nas aulas de Artes e junto ao grupo focal foi realizado um mapeamento cultural do Baixo Roger, onde a maioria dos estudantes reside. Para se chegar a esses dados, contei com os seguintes instrumentos de coleta: aplicação de questionários, entrevistas, depoimentos, documentação fotográfica e audiovisual. A pesquisa busca responder ao seguinte problema: a Escola Municipal Frei Afonso aborda a estética do cotidiano do Baixo Roger e dos estudantes no currículo de Artes Visuais? A base teórica foi fundamentada em autores que contribuíram nas discussões necessárias para a formação dos conceitos centrais do trabalho: conceito de periferia e favela, seus históricos, características, diferenças e desafios atuais (Moura e Ultramari, Denaldi, Zaluar e Alvito); conceito de cultura e arte da periferia (Hollanda, Frota, Tavares); estética do cotidiano (Richter, Barbosa); questões de currículo (Silva, Giroux e Simon); Histórico e conceito filosófico de multiculturalismo (Semprini); e a contribuição do multiculturalismo na educação e no Ensino de Artes Visuais (Candau, Canen, Barbosa).
